After Tyneham School closed in 1932, sisters Charlotte Hole (1869-1948), known as Lottie, and Helen Hole (1874-1958) lived at 1 The Row – The School House. The cottage was given the name Flagstaff Cottage.

On Sunday 11 June 1939 Helen fell down a cliff near Worbarrow and suffered multiple head injuries. She was taken to Swanage Cottage Hospital. According to the newspaper report shown below, the hospital described her condition as ‘very comfortable’. Over three months later, on 29 September 1939, Helen was still in hospital.

Meanwhile, sister Lottie was living in Corfe View Road, Corfe Mullen next door to brother William Hole (1871-1958) and his wife. With Lottie were the Cossars, with whom sister Helen had once lived.
