Mintern’s Cottage

Inland from The Bungalow, in a hollow by the stream, this cottage was home to the Mintern family for nearly fifty years. Tommy fished with his partner ‘Tarry’ Samways and also kept cows and chickens. In 1908, after having six daughters, Tommy and Sarah had a son. Tragically, ‘Billy’ drowned, aged 15, whilst fishing in Worbarrow Bay. In 1943, two of the Mintern girls were still at their small holding, supplying the Tyneham valley with milk, butter and eggs and 1/- teas for tourists.
